Brad Bourn for Minneapolis Park Board

Brad is the brother of Brian Bourn, one of our Keel Boat Racers.

Was just endorsed by Minneapolis resident and former Vice President of the United States, Walter Mondale for my stance on protecting our riverfront park land from overdevelopment. I am truly honored that he has taken an interest in our efforts to protect our parks for everyone.

Results last Saturday’s Keelboat Race.

Hello sailing friends,

Last Saturday we sailed the for last race at Lake Calhoun and we where happy to see that six boats lined up for the start. After Tom set up the Olympic course, not without problems, as the wind shifted up to 60 degrees sometimes and died to not more than 3 to 5 miles per hour even with patches with no wind at all.

Brian / Alberto made the best start with Rich and his two grand children. Henk / Wenona and Rodger in close pursuit. Rich took off well and sailed on a port tack away from the fleet. Nabile with Shannon as his crew and the Richard family closed the field.

All went well until the wind died. Henk/ Wenona sailed in a hole and floated around. Just before the first buoy Rodger past Brian but he was able to take the second place again just behind Rich rounding the first buoy.

During the rest of the race we all looked for puffs and prayed for some wind to keep moving. Rich ended first, with Brian 5 seconds behind him. Rodger ended third, and Nabil became fourth before Henk and Wenona.

Now a more serious note:
From now on the race will start on time, as the judge has to set up the course on time for us to be able to race.
1) Judge blows horn 30 minutes before the start.
2) Judge gives first signal 6 minutes before the start.
3) Judge gives second signal 3 minutes before the start.
4) Judge gives starting signal.

See you all on our last race of the season Saturday September 26.
Starting time 11am.

Don’t be late.

Sunday Keelboat Race cancelled

Dear Keel boaters,

In anticipation of light winds, rain and possible passing storms on Saturday, we are planning going to host a Brunch/Lunch in front of the Boathouse instead of racing the LowKey Regatta.

And for the same reason, as winds are predicted to be light and variable, calm to very light there will be no Keelboat Race on Sunday morning.

Also, I was just now informed that the Park Board will close parkway roads around the lakes this Sunday from about 7:00 a.m. to 12 Noon due to a bike touring event. This will not only be highly inconvenient, but will also greatly curtail available parking around the east shore of Lake Calhoun.

But..........The barbecue grill will be fired up, we will have hot dogs and burgers and refreshments available for all C-Boaters, Laser and Keelboat Sailors starting from 10:30/11:00am.

Come over and have a bite.

CYC Drivers for LHYC DieHard Regatta

Greetings

For the DieHard Regatta September 19 and 20 on Lake Harriet, CYC has been asked to supply two Safety Boat Drivers Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning. This entails some taxi driving between the dock and boats, but most importantly involves driving an LHYC Safety Boat during the regatta competition out on the lake.

As has been the tradition, CYC supplies driving teams during the Spring Icebreaker and Fall DieHard regattas. LHYC supplies drivers and safety crew, and extra crew if windy, to the CYC Aquatennial Regattas in July. We want to continue this important cooperation between the clubs.

If you can help by driving a Lake Harriet Safety Boat for the DieHard, please get back to me to indicate what day or daypart you can drive. I will coordinate the drivers and schedules with LHYC. Lake Harriet will supply the boat.

Dale Borgeson, CYC PRO, will be judging the DieHard regatta in the CYC Committee Boat.

All drivers are invited to the DieHard Saturday evening party for refreshments and a very nice buffet dinner.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you can help out on the DieHard safety boat teams.

Thank you,

Tom Weigel
